Following the release of debut album you=me, St. Solaire release their new EP Keep On Waiting on March 17th. The songs were written in the period after the release of their album, when the album tour sadly got cancelled due to Covid.
A tough time, but the result shows the band’s resilience: the EP is more challenging, layered and diverse than any of the band’s previous work. It Ain’t over is filled with electronic influences, while title track Keep On Waiting has a strong socially critical angle. “Both musically and thematically we dare to go further, there’s no way around that” singer Geert van Emden explains. “The EP is pretty confronting both socially and personally, but sometimes things need to clash a bit before being smoothed out. We can learn a lot from these confrontations.”
However, there’s no need for fans of you=me to be scared off. On both records, the band finds their inspiration in the search for and shaping of identity in the midst of the rollercoaster that’s life in this day and age. Even though the process was approached completely differently this time around. After recording their debut album totally autonomously, the band felt a need to experiment with new sounds and concepts on Keep On Waiting.
“I think the choice for Studio Katzwijm and working with engineers Tammo Kersbergen, Floyd Atema and Daan Duurland was a great move creatively” according to drummer Tijs Kulker. “It allowed us to focus completely on our music and stay as close as possible to the essence of our band.” Despite this different approach, EP Keep On Waiting is unmistakably St. Solaire: layered and fragile on one side, energetic and intoxicating on the other.
The band celebrated the release of Keep On Waiting the night before release, with a sold out show at V11 in Rotterdam accompanied by their new keys player Reid Steenhuis. Next up are performances at renowned indie festival Motel Mozaïque on April 14th and a headline show at Cinetol, Amsterdam, on June 17th.
