Claude9 ○ Enough is Enough

  From CANADA

Austin-based electronic artist Claude9 (a.k.a. Claude McCan) presents 'Enough Is Enough', the closing track on his debut album 'Chords of Love', released via indie imprint New Human Music. This song is one of two featuring the unmistakable talent of Jorja Chalmers (Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Italians Do It Better), whose saxophone brings intensity and emotional resonance.

Set in a surreal landscape of massive satellite dishes, this live performance video blends stark Earthly imagery with a sci-fi narrative. Featuring the otherworldly Claude9 and powerful symbolic visuals, it reflects on current realities while imagining a path beyond them. The satellite imagery became a key part of the video’s aesthetic, depicting a visiting otherworldly figure. This video speaks to what we’re facing here on Earth while also transporting you to a different dimension. A reflection, a protest, and a vision for something better.

Imbued with dreamy, rhythmic energy, the 'Chords of Love' album blends ambient and downtempo electronica, offering with six extended tracks and three shorter interlude pieces, creating the feeling of one continuous work that makes use of cicada field recordings, lush pads, drones, and a mix of real and synthesized vocals. This album offers a unique and largely relaxing sound, with light fractals of Enigma, Jean-Michel Jarre, Boards of Canada, Tangerine Dream, Air and Kruder & Dorfmeister.

"This is the album's final track, written during the George Floyd protests. I wanted to join the demonstrations here in Austin, but my wife and daughter, fearing for my safety, asked me not to. I stayed home, but the energy in the streets and urgency in the air made its way into the music. The lyrics came quickly: “People in the streets, can’t wait no longer… they say: Enough Is Enough”. With dub as the musical backbone and a stunning saxophone performance by Jorja Chalmers from Bryan Ferry's band, the track became both a protest and a personal reflection," says Claude9.

"We shot the video at a strange site off I-130, surrounded by giant satellite dishes—surreal and abandoned. My producer Manny Muñiz created a layered vision featuring the alien Claude9 and masked figures holding a sign marked by an unequal symbol—a powerful alternative to the obvious. The video speaks to injustice but also invites you into another world. Watch it now and feel the message: Enough is enough."

The 'Chords of Love' album is out now, available from fine music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.

Weaving together ambient and downtempo electronica, 'Chords of Love' offers a seamless listening experience with six extended tracks and three shorter interlude pieces that flow effortlessly into one another, creating the feeling of one continuous work. Earlier, Claude9 shared the chilled single 'Clouds So Low', tastefully blending Eno-esque ambient music and downtempo trip-hop, the wonderfully futuristic 'The Shadow'and the title track 'Chords of Love'.

Claude McCan has been a key part of the Austin music scene for decades, both as a live performer and recording artist. As a keyboard player and singer, he's played with reggae acts Pressure, the Killer Bees, and Raggamassive, before joining hiphop-funk act Afrofreque, Supercreeps and Hail Marley.

In the late ’90s, he emerged as one of Austin’s first electronic producers, contributing to house music collaborations in the early 2000s. His background in live music shaped the dub and funk influences in his electronic work, including projects with Noëlle Hampton (the Belle Sounds) and Ken Christensen (East Coast Boogiemen) in synth pop band XANIMAL. At Claude9 Studios, he continues to produce internationally recognized house and downtempo music while remaining a vital force in Austin’s evolving musical landscape.
