he Next Dream is Massimo Pieretti's second album, and like the previous one it is conceived as a concept album, a fantasy tale about a dreamlike world and the creatures that inhabit it and visit us at night, sometimes a metaphor for the society we live in.
This album is a rather different work compared to A New Beginning, isomehow more extreme, and jazz-oriented, hard and pop at once, richer in sound contrasts but also less orchestral.
There is a real and accurate work behind musical arrangements and in the research for unusual harmonies, representative of Pieretti's sound.
The album builds a proper story, a dark musical in which the main character impersonates a guide, much in the same way of Dante’s Virgil, along with a whole range of scenes and characters discovered with the unfolding of the events.

The album opens with Come Heavy Sleep, an old song dating back to 1600 by the British musician John Dowland, rediscovered rearranged and renewed in order to fit with our times, and as part of a wider attempt to start a “small social revolution”
Creatures of the Night Part 1 and 2 are the very focus of the album, the songs from which the whole story and the unfolding of the events were conceived. They’re both inspired by the sounds of electric rock-jazz, which permeates several harmonies and songs on the album.
Get in Line is inspired by a real event in Pieretti's life. By virtue of his role as a teacher not following the standards of the current and obsolete school system, at some point he found himself cornered several times by bosses and colleagues.
In The Chinese Witch the nightmare of an unexpected nocturnal meeting becomes the spark to talk about the distorted vision that many Westerner people have of Chinese culture.
I Dreamed of Flying could be seen as an Imagine 2.0, a song against war and violence worldwide. The lyrics were originally written by Massimo's sister Patrizia.
Alone is the song about the artist's loneliness. Each of us knows too well that no one will really help in times of need. Why would anyone do this? Unless...talent, mastery and skills grow such powerfully to allow a reversal of the trend.
The First Time We Met is a modern-day love story, a possible screenplay on the theme of romantic relationships. Partly reality, partly dream and partly novel.
The Next Dream, the final title track, represents perhaps the most ambitious song of the full-lenght. An almost entirely instrumental mini "suite", divided into several movements with many tempo changes, solos, virtuoso passages and reprises of the main themes of the album, paying tribute to the great musicians of the golden age of progressive rock, Pieretti's great passion and key source of inspiration.
