The video for War Is a Mistake, conceived and directed by Emil Moonstone himself, depicts the devastation of war-torn urban landscapes.

At its center is a little girl clinging to her torn toys, a symbol of a simple and reassuring daily life now lost. An outstretched hand, an embrace, represent a reconnection with one's own humanity amidst the ruins and terror.

Emil Moonstone is an Italian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, a cult figure in the Bologna underground scene and a constant presence in the European dark punk scene for over thirty years. His artistic journey spans raw and visionary sonic territories—from primordial punk to noise, from post-punk to darkwave—always maintaining a dark, visceral, and deeply personal aesthetic at its core.

He took his first steps in the Bologna underground scene between the late 1980s and early 1990s, founding several punk bands including Burp, Nevrotic Heads, DDT, Flying Chips, and Pastonudo. Moonstone's artistic identity, however, took full shape in 1992 with the founding of South Breed Out, a noise band of which he is the leader and vocalist, which over the years has become a reference point for the most radical areas of the Italian underground.

After a period of creative silence, he returned to the scene with a new project: together with Joseph Rips Asanda, he founded Two Moons, a band that expanded his international reach. With this band, he released an EP and four albums, moving between crepuscular post-punk and darkwave atmospheres, consolidating an increasingly personal sonic language.

In 2018, he made his solo breakthrough with Disappointed, an album written, performed, and produced entirely by Moonstone. The album represents a sort of artistic manifesto: a direct and uncompromising work that distills thirty years of musical experience into a single authorial vision. The project received strong critical and commercial acclaim, reaching number six on the iTunes Alternative Top 100.

To bring this new chapter to life, Moonstone founded The Anomalies, a band that quickly transcended the role of a simple backing band to become a true collective entity. With them, he released Naked Is Man Upon the Earth in 2023 on Seahorse Recordings, an album that further expanded his sonic universe: melancholic pianos, noise riffs, desert-rock tensions, and twilight atmospheres intertwine in an intense and layered work, keeping the dark heart of his poetics intact.

Today, Emil Moonstone continues to move at the most fertile fringes of alternative music. His new album, Human Error, due out in April 2026, marks a further chapter in this journey: a work that promises to further deepen the sonic and psychological investigation begun with Anomalies, amidst dystopian visions, emotional tension, and a renewed expressive urgency.
