🖤 New Release: DegHerl Drops Self-Titled Debut Album

Italian post-punk visionaries DegHerl have officially released their highly anticipated, self-titled debut album. Following two acclaimed EPs, this record beautifully bridges songs recorded between 2022 and 2026, offering a deep dive into the dark-romantic realms of post-punk and new wave.

Far from a simple tracklist, the album is a circular sonic journey exploring the tensions between light and shadow. Listeners will easily catch echoes of iconic influences, from the urban gloom of The Cure and Tuxedomoon to the ethereal, dream-pop landscapes of Slowdive and Cocteau Twins.

Backed by a multi-generational lineup—including veterans Raffaele K. Salinari, Antonio "Toni" Tronchin, and recent classical percussionist Andrea Giorgi—DegHerl delivers a powerful blend of genres. Melding shoegaze, dark-folk, and no-wave, this record stands out as a timeless invitation to rethink modern alternative music. Out now!

eleased today - October 02, 2026 - Degherl's first album, follows two previous EPs (one live and the other in the studio), and includes songs recorded between 2022 and 2026, as well as a new version - for the vocal part - of the single Nightmare, already published in 2021 as part of a compilation.

The band further deepens its sonic research within the post-punk and new wave universe, building a work that, without losing coherence and identity, also crosses shoegaze, jangle-pop and dark-folk, with a brief excursus between no-wave and psychedelia.

More than a collection of songs, the album appears as a circular path in which each song explores a different declination of the tension between shadow and light, restlessness and desire, memory and vision.

To quote some influences, you will recognise the dark romanticism of The Cure, the urban shadows of Tuxedomoon and The Sound, the angularity of Xmal Deutschland, the ethereal atmospheres of Slowdive and Cocteau Twins, up to the art-punk eclecticism of DEVO and B-52's.
  • The group's name is also the album's title.
The presence of different generations in the Degherl lineup testifies their timeless vitality. The group's name is also the album's title. Degherl (whose pronunciation sounds like The Girl) can then become an invitation to read between the lines, make free associations between sound assonances and phonetic decompositions, to reconstruct from scratch the possibility of regenerating meanings.

DegHerl were born in 2013, having as their main source of inspiration post-punk and new wave between the end of the '70s and the mid-'80s. Tuxedomoon, Devo, Cure, Violent Femmes, Clash, Gang of Four, The Sound, XTC, Siouxsie, Cramps, Television, Suicide, The Smiths, Stranglers and Bauhaus, are some of the names that make up the band's imagery.
  • converge and mix with other musical influences,
The previous genre (and non-genre) experiences of the singer/guitarist Raffaele K. Salinari (in Bologna in the 70s and 80s) and of the bassist/singer Antonio "Toni" Tronchin (in the post-Great Complotto period/area, which also led him to the founding of bands such as Joycut in the early 2000s), converge and mix with other musical influences, thanks to the arrival in 2015 of the guitarist Alessio Franzoni (garage, psychedelia, kraut, indie-rock).

In the following years, the entry into the line-up of Gianluca Panici (Spoons, Riijgs) on drums, who will remain until 2024, will make the live shows even more "nervous" and partly also no-wave.

In 2018, the Italian-Austrian painter (keyboardist and singer) Daniela Gullotta was involved in the project: the band found new nuances that bordered on German dark-wave, or in more properly ethereal and almost dream-pop lands à la Cocteau Twins / Dead Can Dance.

Daniela's voice is the perfect counterbalance to Salinari's vocal timbres, which alternates Lou Reed's style with lines closer to punk and British wave. In 2025 the band found balance with the arrival of Andrea Giorgi on drums, whose attitude is essential, clean and energetic, and with a background of studies in the Conservatory of classical percussion, with insights into contemporary minimalism such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

DegHerl have released two EPs so far:  EPdemie, recorded live in 2020 at the historic Mikasa Club in Bologna immediately before the lockdown, and Lost and Found, a work that encompasses the band's first period, which remained unrleased for a long time before seeing the light in 2022.

Also worth mentioning are the 3 singles: Nightmare (which winks at Joy Division), No Moon (in an almost industrial version, also thanks to the remixing support of European Ghost, a historic Italian dark-wave band) and finally Less Than Human, a cover present in the album "Script of the 40th Bridge - The Chameleons Italian Tribute", released in 2025 by Darkitalia.
