Chic Jesus is a theatrical piece, which opens with the a cappella voice of Ippolito Nicolini singing a freak prayer, almost a work song, which then strengthens and grows on trellises of guitars, piano and brass instruments, between wings of fallen angels, cigarette smoke and alcohol.

The video, simple but very effective, plays with the double stage/cinema screen level and with chiaroscuro, and was directed by Silvia Criscione at the Cine Teatro Lumiere in Ragusa.

Chic Jesus anticipates The Shameless new album Prayers After Dark, out April 📌 09th, 2025 on Seahorse Recordings.

Three and a half years after their previous effort Love Condemnation, Ragusa based The Shameless are back, again with their unmistakable style and elegance, and a sound which won't deceive fans of Gallon Drunk, Grinderman, Tindersticks, drawing from rock, blues, gospel and jazz.

Anticipated by the single Chic Jesus (March 14th, 2025), Prayers after Dark will be available digitally and on CD from April 9th through Seahorse Recordings, with Audioglobe/The Orchard distribution.

Prayers after Dark was conceived between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2025, recorded at Pausa Studio in Modica (Ragusa), and includes six unreleased songs and the covers of Straight to You by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds and I Can’t Escape Myself by The Sound.

This album is more mature, less baroque and romantic than the previous one, but certainly more disenchanted and visceral.

The inspiration is nocturnal, at times liturgical, it picks up the thread interrupted with Love Condemnation, dissecting even deeper the almost extreme aspects characterizing the human soul, such as love, faith, anger, hope and desperation and the aim for redemption.

Prayers After Dark represents everything that the very thin boundary between dreams and prayers, collapsing, would bring to light: that nocturnal horizon beyond which every whispered prayer converges, sometimes arousing in us great aspirations, sometimes causing immense desperation.
