From HOLLAND •
Today, Dutch indie folk progeny Roofman releases the first single of his upcoming EP 'The ATL EP': an americana-infused indie-folk record, recorded on a vintage Tascam 388 8track tape machine in an Atlanta basement accompanied by his American friends Rhett Shull (guitar/production), Philip Conrad (bass) and Chad Collins (drums).
Roofman about the song: "Hometown Song is for all the people who choose to spend the rest of their lives in their little hometown. I wrote the song after trying a move to Amsterdam a couple of years ago, which turned out not to be for me: I love the city, but I love my shitty hometown more."
Wistful folk songs, which always have a certain indie fragility. Thijs van der Meulen alias Roofman has this special charisma that makes people listen to him. His melancholic songs, which he sometimes breaks with humorous announcements, have great melodies and are, in the best sense, intense.
"The joy of sadness," as he calls it, seems to touch people. He succeeds just as well in an intimate setting as in a larger club when he's on the road with his band - the effect is the same, only the musical variety and volume are different. 'The ATL EP' will be released on Clouds Hill in October 2023, following the release of debut album 'Still The Mess I Was' earlier this year.
