From HOLLAND •
A stark contrast to his forest home in the Netherlands, Roofman traveled to Atlanta to dive into a basement studio with his good American friends to record a new EP. Today, the Dutch indie folk progeny presents the 'ATL EP': an americana-infused indie-folk record, recorded on a vintage Tascam 388 8track tape machine.
Although many of his songs are written in the serenity of the woods, Roofman is not one to isolate himself, but rather chooses a collaborative approach both on the road and in the studio. On the 'ATL EP', Roofman is accompanied by Rhett Shull (guitar/production), Philip Conrad (bass) and Chad Collins (keys/drums).
Roofman about the ATL EP:
"In the last week of February 2020, I flew over to Atlanta to visit my good friends Rhett and Philip, whom I met on tour with Noah Guthrie. I flew back to The Netherlands on the day before the world shut down air travel.
Although it took a lot of patience, our dream to make music together never died. In November 2021, after the worst period of the pandemic was over, we finally got a chance to get the group back together again and we took all the time we had to record the first Roofman album at the Clouds Hill studios in Hamburg, Germany.
About two years later (May 2023), here I am, sitting in Atlanta, picking out a couple of my songs that would fit the Atlanta band and session. Rhett got his hands on a vintage Tascam 388 8track tape machine. In 4 days, we recorded 5 songs. A long way from home, but really just a couple of friends making music in a basement and trying to capture the moment."

The ATL EP includes:
Hometown Song
"Hometown Song is for all the people who choose to spend the rest of their lives in their little hometown. I wrote the song after trying a move to Amsterdam a couple of years ago, which turned out not to be for me: I love the city, but I love my shitty hometown more."
When Breaking Up Feels Like The Hardest Part
"It’s hard to quit or change something that will cause a big shift in your life, but usually it’s unavoidable. This song is a little push towards that big step which will (probably) make your life better in the end."
Two Buckets Of Dreams
"Sometimes writing a song is a spiritual thing. After binge-watching Twin Peaks for two weeks, this song just fell out of the sky. I think it’s about not taking everything too seriously, trying to live up to your dreams but not to be too sad when things don’t turn out the way you wanted them to. Just embrace ‘that it is what it is’."
Live In The Moment (Lost In A Day)
"This is me and Rhett kind of testing out the tape machine and the sounds that were available at Rhett’s place, adding layers and having fun with old and new technology. The song is about the downside of being in the moment, sometimes ‘the moment’ is not the most comfortable place to be in."
Dreams Stay Dreams
"I wrote this song in 2020, during the first lockdown after returning from my first trip to Atlanta. It’s about uncertainty and missing my friends on the other side of the ocean. Weird to think back and realize that it really was impossible to visit each other. I’m very happy we can travel again and make music all over the world."
